Period Poverty affects 1 in 10 girls. Think this is a dirty topic and want to shy away? Just give us 5 minutes.

In the US alone, millions of young girls lack access to hygiene products such as sanitary napkins. For those experiencing poverty, $9 per month per female in a household is far too expensive. They often miss one or more days of school, every month. This affects their education, health and mind. Improving menstrual health management can substantially improve girls’ education, health, wellbeing, security and self-confidence.

Our mission is to make menstrual hygiene products available and accessible to high school girls. 100% of donations go towards the hygiene products. No overhead.

Give them a gift of life. They need your help to survive.

Our History

Pads for Peers was founded by two high school students, Aanya Aggarwal and Laya Sunkara. They spent a year learning and researching period poverty, it's effect on their peers, the needs of different populations, and the nuances of different schools.

They started Pads for Peers to help alleviate the issues many other high school students were facing and wanted to do everything they could to help.

What started off as a school project is now a registered 501 (c) (3) organization working with many schools, and other non-profit organiazations to help girls from schools in low income neighborhoods.

What we do

Our mission is to work with socially conscious donors like you, and the management at high schools to make menstrual hygiene products easily accessible to high school girls.

Raise Funds

We work with donors to raise funds and use 100% of donations to purchase menstrual hygiene products. We have registered Pads for Peers as a 501(c)(3) organization to give you a tax break along with good Karma.

Procure hygiene products

Different schools and populations require different products. We work with reputed vendors to purchase the specific hygiene products needed, ensure quality, comfort and safety of the students. We manage the logistics too.

Work with schools

As a first step, we identify schools that we can support. We then work with the school management to understand the needs of their particular student population, help them setup a system to make the products available and accessible to their students.

Work with non-profits

We know and understand that we cannot do it all. So, we work with reputed youth organizations that already have an established foothold. They provide local knowledge and expertise that we lack in their neighborhoods. This helps us move fast.

Gather feedback

We have created a feedback loop from students and schools, to ensure that we are listening to, and understand the specific requirements of the students, issues they face, products they need and much more. This helps us make sure that we they don't see this as a charity, but an oppportunity for them to help get ahead.

Provide feedback

We learn from all our schools, students and partners, and make those learnings available to everyone else. This helps build a community that is constantly improving, and a service that helps everyone it touches. We also focus on ensuring that we keep in constant touch with our donors to inform them of how we are utilizing their donations, and how it helps the many students they sponsor.
